Welcome To Fish Room!

We have had a wonderful first two days of school.  The fish friends adjusted to the new room, are meeting new friends, and are showing their sweet personalities. 


We made bubbles today. We mixed water with soap and food coloring. Ask me the steps of how we made bubbles. We practiced using sequence words: first, then, next, and last. We even made our own bubble wands.















Each child put stickers on the first letter of their name.



We also water colored secret messages: names of our friends, shapes, letters, and numbers.


It was nice getting fresh air but boy is it hot!





Patterning was a fun skill to do. We are working on ABAB, AABB, and ABC patterns.




We made first day of school picture frames. 



We read "David Goes to School". 


At circle, we reviewed the rules of the classroom and the expectations. We also learned a little bit about each other such as what we did this summer!

On Tuesday, we went on a scavenger hunt and saw the different areas of the school. 

We worked hard on making "x" when we found the spot. 


In the afternoon we explored the fish room. We played with play dough, painted fish, played firetrucks and fire house, read the "The Kissing Hand" and made our own kissing hands. 









We water colored the first letter of our names. 


WEDNESDAY:
We got to go to the gym with our buddy class, the Otters. 


Marbling primary colors was good practice! 




Dinosaur patterns are always fun!  We are working on sorting and ABAB, AABB, and ABC patterns with color and other details. 


Cutting with the correct grip and using a helper hand to move the paper. is a skill we will work on a lot this year. Cutting on the line is a very important skill. 



THURSDAY: Today we discussed how we get to school. We charted who rode the bus, came by car and walked to school. 

"Getting to know you bags" were a fun activity to get to know each other. Olivia brought in family pictures, Shawn brought in a book and a picture of his hamster, Chin Chin, and Ryan brought in cars. 



Today we had the big room with the Otters. We played in the school, the fire house, the kitchen and crawled up the rock wall and through the tunnels. 



In math, we counted how many letters are in our names. Ms. Amy had the lowest number at 3 and Ms. Michelle had the most letters, having 8. 

Shawn, Olivia and Ryan hid letters in the sand. 


Sweet Street is always a fun time. We practiced asking to join play, play with a specific toy, and playing with each other in a house.



Today we got to read "When I Build with Blocks" on the smart board. We used to blocks to play "copycat" with our own blocks afterwards. We made what our friends made out of their blocks. 




We took turns picking out the color book bag we wanted and where we wanted our friends to sit on the bus: front, back, or middle.



We made our own buses and glued our friends on them also. Reviewing front, back, and middle.

 This week we introduced the theme "Winter". We brainstormed what the season of winter is like, how the weather feels, and the different warm clothes we wear in winter, and things we can do in winter.  Matthew and Olivia counted winter objects and had to circle the correct number in their math book. They also made a pair of mittens. We discussed how a pair of mittens looks the same and are the same color or have the same patterns. In circle we described things we need to play in the snow in winter. Coat, hat, mittens and gloves were some of the items we may need.  "B" this week's  letter is B. 2 small curves and a big line makes a "B." Shaving cream letters was fun!  Olivia and Ryan made a domino train!  In art, we had a party. Holidays part 2, week 2

 SECOND STEPS:  Marissa and Shontell were riding a bike. Marissa felt scared but Shantell was excited!  We discussed  their feelings and how it's okay to feel differently then a friend about the same situation.  Roman, Shawn, Ryan and Matthew did great building a magna tile building.  Sewing/lacing stockings was one of activities this morning.  The question we practiced asking other classes and the office staff was "how many friends are in your class?" We took turns asking the questions and counting the correct number of candy canes for the class. The office staff had 5 ladies in the office.  Christmas bingo and riddles were fun. Each of us took turns playing teacher and describing pictures to our friends. Our friends guessed which picture we were talking about. Holiday, week 2

 " Mr. Willoby's Christmas Tree " was a book about a tree being too tall. There was lots of problem solving that had to happen and each character decided to share the top of the tree with someone else.  It truly emphasized the feelings of giving and receiving. We each made our own tall Mr. Willoby tree after the book!   "What is your favorite Christmas cookie" was our question of the day. Most friends like chocolate chip and gingerbread cookies. They all look really yummy!  Monday morning's activity was building words together.  We really worked our brains or "thinking caps" as the students learned to solve the words.  In journals, we drew how we decorate our homes at the holiday time.  MATH: Coloring the gingerbread man was a following directions activity.
