Transportation, week 1

Transportation is our theme this week and next week. Today we brainstormed ways we get around and different types of transportation. Cutting shapes was fun for morning activity.

"How did you Get to School?" was our question today. We discussed cars, vans, bikes, buses, and SUVs. We practiced answering and asking this question to our fish friends.

"ABC Drive" showed transportation signs and vehicles to prompt language. The book also reviewed transportation vocabulary.

JOURNALS: What kind of vehicle do you have at home? We drew what vehicle we arrived to school in.

MATH: We counted cubes to match the number on the pick up truck. We used one-to-one correspondence.

We played with cars, car garage and magnet cars. In centers, had to join play with cars and work together through conflicts during play.

"Go Dog Go" was a great book to review opposites.

MUSIC: We sang "Sally go round the sun" and played xylophone pieces to make music.

"V" is our letter this week. We practiced making "V"s on chalk boards and HWT doodle boards.

We loved seeing what was magnetic around the room and playing with the magnets that we reviewed from science week!

SECOND STEPS: We continued to practice recognizing and naming our feelings during certain situations.  We talked about the feeling of disappointment.

.

We practiced listening to /v/ words and identifying the beginning sounds.

Introduction to the car mat:
We worked together to set up our city using the car mat. We matched the vehicles with the different community buildings. We also worked on how we would play on the car mat together.

Magnet vehicles on the magnet board is fun!
We also used tape, pipe cleaners, and beads to make cool sculptures.

Sorting vehicles by color was too easy so we sorted by type of vehicle.

"V" for volcano.

Today we looked at Ms. Amy and Ms. Erin's vehicles. Ms. Amy has an SUV and Ms. Erin has a van. We discussed the similarities and differences in the two. From the keys, to the doors, horns, and roofs.

We honked the horn and looked out the sunroof!

 SUNSHINE is the BEST!!

Letter V practice: We traced the letter V and wrote V words. We also made rainbow shamrock names.

Little hole punchers were great fine motor practice.

Camilla was upset she couldn't sit by the teacher. We brainstormed ways she could calm down and name her feeling.

Big room fun!

Shape vehicles: we used different shapes to make vehicles. We created cars, trucks, semis, boats and airplanes.

Gravel and trucks in the sensory table was fun!
Matthew painted a red and blue car.

Legos are a great fine motor to practice building.

SHOW-n-TELL
Roman brought a truck.

Olivia brought a lemur.

And Matthew brought his black dog.
We got some wiggles out in the gym today!

Taking turns and played teacher when we played bingo was fun! We had to think of 3 clues to describe a variety of vehicles.

Each of us took turns being the driver and we drove to various places. We had to think of where we wanted to go and what we needed to get there (like stopping for gas). As a group we decided who sat in the front seat and the back seat.

"Uno" was a our game for math!

Wheel art was fun!

"Don't let Pigeon Drive the Bus" was a silly book!

"V" words can't trick us! We had to listen to the beginning sounds of words and chose those that began with /v/.
