Hibernation
"Hibernation" is the theme for this week. We are ending our winter weeks learning about animals that hibernate and animals that migrate. We brainstormed what each of those words meant and what animals hibernate and which animals migrate. "Bear Snores On" was a good book to review hibernation. Animals need lots food to eat before they hibernate so we started learning about some of the foods they search for.
Animals and Lincoln logs made great caves for hibernating.
Adding phonemes to words was tricky. We had to add together /s/ to "pool" to make "spool" or a /s/ to nap to make snap
Sorting and patterning bears was our math activity. The bears were different sizes also but we focused on colors and the patterns we created.
Wednesday we watched some videos about animals that hibernate and how they hibernate. We brainstormed different things we know about hibernating and made a story.
"What is your favorite season?"was our question of the day Wednesday.
We got new jigsaw puzzles that were harder for us.
"R" was our letter we reviewed Wednesday afternoon.
HIBERNATION: We acted like bears and grabbed berries and fish before it turned to winter and we had to hibernate. When the lights came on, and we were resting in our cave, we slowly came out of our cave because it was spring!
MATH: Using sorting bears, we measured our shoes and various things around the room for non-standardized measurement.
Happy Friday! Today we counted from 1-21 in the month of January! The Friday song is always fun!
Ryan and Ms. Amy had show-n-tell. Ryan showed a truck and Ms. Amy showed a bubble wand. We took it outside to see if the bubbles would freeze, ask me what happened!
Season sorting was fun. We described pictures we saw and had to place them in the correct season.
The season tree art was fun. We used different colors to place leaves on the trees and what the trees would look like in the different seasons.
"Uno" was a fun game in math! We had to tell how we could play our card by if it was the same number or the same color. There were some tricky cards too such as WILD, SKIP, and REVERSE.
"Does this picture start with B, J or R?" Sorting pictures into the correct bear cave was fun!
"Polar Bear Polar Bear, What do Hear?" let us look at lots of animals and we brainstormed which animals hibernated and which ones didn't.
