FALL
Fall / Autumn, is the theme we introduced this week. We talked about what happens in fall and things we do and see in fall. We had lots of good ideas. We sang 2 songs about falling leaves: "5 Little Leaves" and "Autumn Leaves are Falling Down" and read "Autumn's First Leaf". We discussed how in fall we change our clothes to long sleeves and wear jackets, how it gets windy and how the leaves fall off the trees.
Sand and sunshine, 2 of our favorite things!
In math we added the correct number of leaves to trees. We matched the amount to a numeral.
Duplo building was fun, Olivia built a big camper and Ryan and Shawn built a big house.
"There was an Old Lady Who wasn't Afraid of Anything" was a great book about a lady who leaves her house and meets scary things along her walk. In the end all of the scary things were the parts of a scarecrow.
In phonemic awareness time we played the game "name that letter sound". Ms. Erin said a letter sound and we had to write what letter matched the sound.
THURSDAY:
In math we patterned leaf colors and added a leaf to the number Ms. Erin called out. We each took turns calling out numbers to cover with leaves.
Leaf rubbings were fun! We had to make sure we looked for the stem and used the flat side of a crayon.
The graph we made was filled up by the number of fall items we found. We counted different nature items from our scavenger hunt and colored the graph to match the number.
We worked on cutting leaves, smallest to biggest sorting, matched leaves and traced lines from the squirrel to the acorns.
Ryan made his name with play dough!
Ryan, Matthew and Olivia made a long chain of cubes this morning.
"Who stole the acorn from the grey old squirrel?" was a fun game just like "Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar." We are getting good at looking for clues.
In centers, we made tissue paper leaves and played with Mr. Potato Head.
We love playing with friends outside!
In the book, "There was an Old Lady who Wasn't afraid of Anything" lots of things followed her and we used the parts to build the scarecrow.
Fall patterns was Friday's circle time activity.
SHOW-N-TELL: Olivia brought a fox, Roman brought superheros and Matthew brought cars.
Building bird feeders was fun. We used pine cones, peanut butter and bird seed to attract the birds. Then we hung them outside in the trees. In this process, we had to repeat back to Ms. Erin what the steps were in making our bird feeders using our sequencing words: first, next, then.
Each fish friend picked a branch to hang their bird feeder on.
MATH: It was game day! We chose "Memory" to play. We practiced saying "horses" "shoes" or "watches" because it was 2, a pair.
Mr. Potato Head was a great new toy we played with today!
Roman and Matthew enjoyed watching the cars drive by and looking to see if any birds visited our bird feeders.
