"Apples"
Apples is our theme this week. We read "Picking Apples and Pumpkins" which gave us details on where we go apple picking, how apples grow and things we can make with apples. We've discussed a lot about what kind of apples we like: peeled, sliced, with caramel sauce, peanut butter or even just eat the apple whole!
We looked at how apples grow from seed to sprout to tree and apples falling off.
The fish class brainstormed things they know about apples. Sizes, colors, how they grow and different textures (smooth, rotten, smushy)
"Way up high in the apple tree" is a good song. Math is included as the apples fall from the tree so we learned some subtraction without even knowing it.
In music we danced, sang and did turtle breathing time.
Riding bikes between rain showers was fun!
In math Matthew worked on visual discrimination with apples and Olivia and Ryan sorted big vs. small apples.
"G" is our letter this week. We used our handwriting without tears lines and curves and made the letter "G". Practicing "G" with chalk was also tricky.
SECOND STEPS: Today we talked about 'self talk'. We discovered songs you can sing to remember what we can do and stay focused.
We worked on finding the letter G, tracing the letter G, following directions and coloring G words and also an apple sequence sheet. How does an apple get sliced? First, pick your apple, then cut it with a knife, and last you can eat it!
Ryan made an apple person out of play dough.
The Fish room apple orchard opened! We discussed how you have to take a wagon out to the apple trees and pick different kinds of apples. Then you have to pay the cashier and check out. The cashier also weighed our apples and pumpkins on a scale.
We talked about how you need a basket for your apples.
After you are done apple picking, you have to get your apples weighed and pay!
In art, we learned about Henri Matisse who made beautiful art with scissors. We used colorful cut up pieces to make our pictures today.
In math we rolled the dice and put that many apples on the tree. It was good practice with identifying numbers, amounts, and one to one correspondence.
We re-read and sequenced "Apple Trouble" using our sequencing words. Then we brainstormed words that start with /g/ and put grapes on our letter G.
Ryan and Olivia enjoyed playing dinosaurs.
Olivia liked all 3 dips!
We practiced apple counting, apple sequencing, and apple matching worksheets.
Today we tasted red apples, green apples and yellow apples with peanut butter, yogurt and caramel sauce.
We peeled the apples, Ryan thought the peel tasted good.
Olivia liked all 3 dips!
We used the big balls to act like drums.
We graphed what apples and dips we liked.
We practiced making shapes and writing numbers on our chalk boards.
At centers time, we painted with apple slices, and played trains.
