Apples, part 2

OCTOBER WORD OF THE MONTH: FRIENDLY


We practiced cutting apples of different sizes and used funny face cut outs to make apple faces! 



Ryan sequenced apples from biggest to smallest. 


SECOND STEPS: Today's lesson was about focusing your attention to follow directions. We also learned strategies about who to ask if you missed the directions and don't know what to do. 

We made long snakes with our connectors. 


This morning we made applesauce. We had to peel the apples, smash them, add the ingredients, and put them in the microwave. 





Ms. Lexi made a pre experience book with us about making applesauce using the word "will". 


We made cinnamon play dough this morning and rolled numbers out of it. That was tricky!



Big room fun! 




"G" words were tricky to brainstorm! What begins with /g/?

Adding "G" pictures to the letter G was our activity for phonemic awareness. 


FRIDAY: 
We did a science experiment.  This class LOVES science.
We took sliced apples and placed them in different liquids. Water, air, vinegar and lemon juice were in the cups. We predicted what we thought would happen to the apple slices when they were placed in the cups. On Monday, we will look at the cups and see what happened to the slices over the weekend. We listened to the cups because a few of them made noises. 

In math we played "Hi Ho Cherrio. We pretended the cherries were apples and practice patience and taking turns.
We also played Pictionary. We took turns drawing pictures for our friends to guess what we drew. We had to give some clues throughout but we were able to practice our description words.



SHOW-N-TELL
Matthew, Olivia and Roman brought in show-n-tell today. 





We said goodbye to our student teacher, Ms. Lexi today. 

"10 Apples on Top" was a good book, then chose how many apples we wanted on our heads!  We had to choose a number, count that many apples, and write the number.

 This week we introduced the theme "Winter". We brainstormed what the season of winter is like, how the weather feels, and the different warm clothes we wear in winter, and things we can do in winter.  Matthew and Olivia counted winter objects and had to circle the correct number in their math book. They also made a pair of mittens. We discussed how a pair of mittens looks the same and are the same color or have the same patterns. In circle we described things we need to play in the snow in winter. Coat, hat, mittens and gloves were some of the items we may need.  "B" this week's  letter is B. 2 small curves and a big line makes a "B." Shaving cream letters was fun!  Olivia and Ryan made a domino train!  In art, we had a party. Holidays part 2, week 2

 SECOND STEPS:  Marissa and Shontell were riding a bike. Marissa felt scared but Shantell was excited!  We discussed  their feelings and how it's okay to feel differently then a friend about the same situation.  Roman, Shawn, Ryan and Matthew did great building a magna tile building.  Sewing/lacing stockings was one of activities this morning.  The question we practiced asking other classes and the office staff was "how many friends are in your class?" We took turns asking the questions and counting the correct number of candy canes for the class. The office staff had 5 ladies in the office.  Christmas bingo and riddles were fun. Each of us took turns playing teacher and describing pictures to our friends. Our friends guessed which picture we were talking about. Our target was the word "and"combining sentences.  In math we counted Christmas and holiday stickers into the correct number window on the gingerbread house. Peeling stickers is a gre...

Holiday, week 2

 " Mr. Willoby's Christmas Tree " was a book about a tree being too tall. There was lots of problem solving that had to happen and each character decided to share the top of the tree with someone else.  It truly emphasized the feelings of giving and receiving. We each made our own tall Mr. Willoby tree after the book!   "What is your favorite Christmas cookie" was our question of the day. Most friends like chocolate chip and gingerbread cookies. They all look really yummy!  Monday morning's activity was building words together.  We really worked our brains or "thinking caps" as the students learned to solve the words.  In journals, we drew how we decorate our homes at the holiday time.  MATH: Coloring the gingerbread man was a following directions activity.
