Monday and Tuesday
This week 9/13, we introduced the theme "Family".
Ms. Erin read Families Share. We talked about the things families do together such as celebrations, vacations, chores, and fun things around the house.
We looked at each other's family pictures. We learned about parents, siblings and who is in each of our families.
Puzzles and garden are always fun!
The flowers in the garden were pretty!
Nurse Ms. Kebby got a bench for the garden when she retired.
We looked at our play people and decided who we thought they were. Maybe a mom, dad, grandma, baby. This will help us play doll house during centers.
In our journals, we drew our families, counted the number of family members, and gave information about our families to our friends.
Today was music with Ms. Julianne. We danced with scarfs, read a book and played "London Bridges".
In math, we charted how many people are in our families. We used the words "most" and "least"."more than" and "less than."
We also matched objects to the shape they are.
"Goldilocks and the 3 Bears" was a good book we introduced Monday.
We also made the letter "F" with big lines and little lines.
In art, we painted dots. Ms. Tara taught us how dots can be different sizes and colors.
SECOND STEPS:
Today we met Albert. He is new to our room. We discussed how people may feel when they're new and what we can do to make them feel welcome. We practiced greeting, introducing ourselves, and telling about our classroom favorites.
"Hi Albert, I'm Matthew". Each friend introduced each other.
We worked on cutting and fine motor skills today. We also did a 5 senses worksheet.
In conversational language, we created a class story and did a shared writing and wrote about what we like to do at home. We practiced using good sentences, expanding our ideas, and listening to one another (these stories went home in backpacks).
In math, we started our "1" books as part of Handwriting Without Tears. We counted how many objects there are and made the number 1. We are practicing writing numbers and letters to prepare for kindergarten.
It was a beautiful day outside!
Sparkle words: words that are new to you and you don't know what they mean. Skill: Practice asking what unknown words mean.
We put feathers on the letter F this afternoon focusing on the beginning sound of /f/.
