Blog from Friday, Monday and Tuesday!

Happy Friday! Fish friends love legos! We built and worked well together to make different things with the legos.

In circle, we did star fall this morning. We learned the days of the week, counted to 27, and sang our Friday song. During our calendar circle time we will work on counting, learning the parts of the calendar, and using adverbs such as yesterday, tomorrow, next week, last week, etc.

We read "Pete the Cat Rocking in my School Shoes." We described and looked at each of our shoes. Some had laces, some had velcro and some friends wore sandals or flip flops.

In journal time, we drew what we thought was in the box. Journal time will be an opportunity for students to hear a topic or answer a question, draw a related picture, tell about their drawing, and begin to write words to describe their picture.

Ryan guessed a bus!

The fresh air was so nice today!

The sand was perfect texture for making castles and towns.

Olivia rode fast on her bike.

Non-standardized measurement: We used uni-fix cubes to measure our shoes and other objects around the room.

We are exploring the big room this year.  There is so much to do in the kitchen, fire house, rock wall, slide, and barn area.

Today, we read, Who Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus? The fish friends thought this was a funny story and answered a variety of questions. Theory of mind was a good skill practiced with this book. We also sang Chicka Chicka Boom Boom 123 and organized our number line.

MONDAY:
We did puzzles this morning. Ms. Lexi is our new student teacher who helped us. She showed us how to move pieces around in a puzzle and how to find the straight ends and corner pieces.
At circle we focused on how we can be a good friend and what some of our favorites were.

We brainstormed ways to share and  help others. We talked about asking friends to play, sharing, helping others clean up, greeting by saying hi and bye, etc. We followed this activity by reading, Can I Play Too?

In journals, we drew our favorite food and shared our drawing with our friends.

Ms. Julianne always has a great music class planned for us. We stretched, sang, danced and read a book.

"Windy Weather" is a great song to sing with a buddy and today we sang it!

Shawn showed us his dance moves in the "Mulberry Bush" circle.

Tamborines are a fun instrument!

In math, we sorted letters and numbers.

The fish friends also took turns snapped and buttons pouches with numbers on them.

Drawing shapes on our chalk boards is a good fine motor activity.

We beat the heat by playing in the sand, under the shaded area.

Shawn and Olivia found dinosaur eggs.

Oh no! Ms. Amy lost a foot.

Olivia painted a pretty picture on the easel.
Roman and Shawn built with magna tiles.

Luckily, we slid into recess before the rain came!

Rhyming is a concept we will work on all year long. In this activity, we saw down if the words rhymed and stood up if they didn't.

"Should I share my Ice Cream?" was a good book about sharing and feelings. It also practiced theory of mind.

We started "handwriting without tears" today also. We can use straight lines and curve lines to make letters. We sang Tap Tap Tap with big lines.

TUESDAY:
Today's circle question was "what is your favorite color?" We took turns asking our friends the question. At the end, we counted how many people liked each color.
We played BINGO and practiced our writing.

In conversational language, we made a school bus. We had to follow directions and use the shapes to make a bus.  We used the words "first, then, and last" making our bus.

In art, we learned about lines. Each of us made pictures with curved lines, straight lines and swirl lines.

Roman built with legos when he was gone.

The green sand is always fun!

Ms. Tara is so excited to have kids back in her art room! Matthew painted a picture on the easel.
In math, we had to work a group and sort the colored ice cream scoops. Each fish friend got a cone with a number on it and added that many scoops to the cone. We also practiced one-to-one correspondence.
